Different Ways Of Exploring The Maldives

The Maldives is the perfect holiday spot. The warm, turquoise waters are inviting – even from the photo in the brochure you are holding in your hand or that image you are seeing on the web. There are all white, sandy beaches and the weather is ideal for most of the year. There are plenty of things to do and see, and a holiday here will be anything but a boring one. But you want a different experience. Something the usual traveller and visitor to the Maldives does not usually see or experience. It’s quite a pricey visit after all, so you want your money’s worth.

There are several ways that you can explore the sights and sea without it costing an arm and a leg while still providing you with the once-in-a-lifetime adventure that you’re looking for.

Hang Out with The Locals

The only way to really experience a place is to live among the locals and do what the locals do. There is a quaint little village about 15 minutes’ drive from the airport on Malé called Kaani Magu. It has a nice little boutique hotel where you can book in for your stay as well as a few colourful streets to explore on your walks through the village. The hotel is situated among quite a few local restaurants and eateries where you can treat yourself to the local cuisine. There are few other tourists in this village, so you will be treated like royalty by the admiring locals.

Snorkelling Is Good Anywhere

Your hotel should be able to recommend a good guide who can take you to the best snorkelling sites in the area. Wherever you are in the Maldives, you will find crystal clear water in which fish and other marine life abound. Snorkel to your heart’s content and admire the sea life below and around you.

Book a Boat Trip

Once again, your hotel will be able to guide you to the best boating crew in the area. If you are lucky, you can indulge in motorboat races, go to a sandbank where marine life flourishes, and even go and watch the turtles. If you stay long enough, you may be blessed with a dolphin sighting. Make sure that the crew that you choose are from a reputable agency that doesn’t endanger the local sea and wildlife in their eagerness to give you the experience of a lifetime.

Travel in a Group

The Maldives is known as a romantic destination, and there is no denying the romance of the islands and the sea. To get a unique perspective of the atolls, however, take a few good friends with you. Each one will see something different in the activities that you participate in, and you can have a good laugh at their antics. Another plus point is that you can share the cost of everything with your friends – making your trip just that little bit more affordable. You will also have some great pics with yourself in since you will not be the only one behind a camera lens.
