Milaidhoo - Maldives' Hot New Resort

At the end of 2016, Universal Resorts (the brains behind the famous Baros Resort) opened their hot, new resort Milaidhoo. This was in response to a call from the Maldives government to increase tourism in the country.

As always, Maldives luxury holidays are guaranteed at this spectacular resort. It is as competitive as the other resorts on the island, but it has features that will leave even the most jaded traveller speechless.

Luxury in abundance

Situated in the beautiful UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, 50 luxury villas are spread out over the relatively small 13 acres of the island. Each villa was designed with delightful luxury and pleasure in mind, with large outside entertainment areas and pools as part of the deal. No expense was spared, and even the bathrooms deserve attention. The rooms are generously spacious and open to accommodate those delightfully warm Indian Ocean days and nights.

For those who fancy a nap during the heat of the day, there are day beds available, with many other luxurious facilities at each villa.

Other features of the resort

The key feature of the resort is that Milaidhoo was designed with Maldivian culture and traditions firmly in mind. The designs have been uniquely devised by a Maldivian architect who succeeded in surpassing all expectations of this boutique resort. One of the outstanding features is the restaurant at the end of the jetty, called Ba’theli (pronounced baa-telly). It looks like three cargo ships moored at the end of the jetty but are actually fixed structures. Ba’thelli means wooden cargo ship in the native language. There are three ‘ships’: one is the actual restaurant, the next is a bar/lounge while the third serves as the kitchen. The food in the restaurant is exquisite Maldivian fare and offers a wide variety of options to the picky palate. They even offer a six-course tasting menu where you can experiment with all the delights on offer.

Other attractions are the pools at each villa or enjoying a relaxing dip in the resort’s infinity pool. You can also enjoy wonderful spa treatments at the resort; there is also a gym for the fitness conscious traveller, as well as a divine wine room where there are many wines for the connoisseur to taste with delicious bread and cheese.

The experience that Milaidhoo offers the discerning traveller promises rest for the body and soul, with enough eye candy and natural beauty to satisfy the pickiest of visitors. If the success of Baros is anything to go by, Universal Resorts has another winner in the paradise that is the Maldives.
